Movement as Arché
We can think of Space and Time as the concepts by which we "unpack" the perception of Movement. To put this in schematic terms:
Space = Extension
Time = Duration
Movement = ExtensionDuration
In other words, any movement is of necessity of a certain duration and extent- while extent and duration never exist entirely in and of themselves, but only as articulated by any particular movement (even if it is just the movement of the eyes across a rectilinear frame). Thus, one can take Movement as an kind of arché or "first principle" in the design or production of spaces, and of their mediated representations.
The approach to the Cartesian spatial construction in Stepping on the Light is to reject the notion of Movement as a sort of "added sum" of Space and Time- rather, it conceives of Movement as originary of both Space and Time- or to put it another way, Space and Time are approached as the two "dimensions" of Movement.
Dimensionality in general can thus be understood as the articulation of Movement-paths:
